Expanding Horizons in the German Market

Abacus expanded into Europe by establishing HOF, its German-based company, marking a key milestone in its international strategy. The first project was a TOOM hardware store in the city of Hof, completed in 2018. This was followed by the development of the OBI retail centre in Magdeburg in 2019. In 2020, HOF completed a retail park in Arnstein, anchored by ALDI and REWE.

These developments highlight the company’s successful entry into the German market and its focus on delivering high-quality, community-oriented retail spaces.

Founded in 2017 in Zurich, Silvermere AG emerged as a privately held Swiss company focused on high-potential real estate investments across Europe. Since its inception, the company has strategically expanded its portfolio, targeting commercial and mixed-use properties in key markets. With a foundation rooted in Swiss financial precision and a forward-looking investment approach, Silvermere has steadily built a reputation for reliability, agility, and value-driven growth. 1995

Abacus is Founded

Abacus began in South Africa with only three employees. Even before its founding, the team completed its first major project in 1990—Waterstone Village, a retail centre with 80 stores. Today, Abacus is a market leader, known for delivering seven of South Africa’s largest regional shopping centres.

2007

Cape Gate Centre

The Cape Gate Centre opened its doors with 160 stores, solidifying Abacus’s reputation in retail development.

2008

MooiRivier Mall, Potchefstroom

First and only mall in South Africa built over a river, featuring glass flooring above the Mooi River. Winner of Retail Design & Development Award in 2009. Home to 100+ stores in a safe, family-friendly setting.

2016

European Expansion

Abacus expanded into Europe, starting with a German portfolio including TOOM in Hof. Major developments followed, such as OBI Magdeburg in 2019 and the ALDI & REWE retail park in Arnstein in 2020.

2017

Silvermere is Founded in Switzerland

Silvermere was established as an independent real estate company based in Uitikon Waldegg. Its first project, The Crystal development, was designed to serve the needs of a growing and dynamic community. The site also became home to the company’s headquarters.

2022

Centre Manor Sierre Joins the Silvermere Portfolio

Silvermere added Centre Manor Sierre to its growing portfolio—a flagship retail destination in the heart of Canton Valais. Home to over 30 leading tenants, including Manor, Dosenbach, and ONLY, the centre marks a strategic step in Silvermere’s expansion across Switzerland.
